Database Specialist (Advisor)

We are seeking a Database Specialist (Advisor) with a degree in Computer Science or Engineering, possessing over 3 years of experience in geospatial systems design and implementation. The ideal candidate should excel in database management, and programming (PL/SQL, Python, JavaScript), and exhibit fluency in Ukrainian, with advantageous skills in Mapbox, Carto, AutoCAD, or QGIS. The role involves contributing to project documentation, ensuring security monitoring in Ukraine, and fulfilling diverse technical tasks assigned by superiors.


Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with the Country Program Team and Information Management experts to understand and address challenges in Mine Action (MA) data requirements by designing effective database schemas, functions, and procedures.
  • Formulate and execute a comprehensive database strategy in coordination with the Country Programme Team, ensuring ongoing monitoring, performance enhancement, and scalability planning for the MA program in Ukraine.
  • Manage day-to-day geospatial and non-spatial data operations, overseeing data quality, metadata, indexing, and web services implementation for data repositories.
  • Maintain and optimize Geographical Information System (GIS) databases, including enterprise Geodatabase (PostgreSQL) Server spatial databases, ensuring uninterrupted query response and data integrity.
  • Conduct quality control for data capture, assess information acquired from MA, and perform spatial analyses to support the development of products for IMSMA Core stakeholders.
  • Review and analyze software engineering documents and workflows using UML, provide business applications support, and deliver training to the team and stakeholders for generating information products, while contributing to the creation of technical documentation templates and styles.


Qualifications:


To thrive in this role, you should possess:

  • Hold a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, showcasing proficiency in logical database design and Unified Modeling Language (UML).
  • Demonstrate expertise in designing and implementing large geospatial systems, utilizing enterprise architectures and solutions, with a focus on ESRI products.
  • Possess strong skills in RDBMS monitoring and administration tools, along with proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and ArcGIS Server.
  • Bring at least 3 years of experience in a similar position, showcasing programming proficiency in PL/SQL, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Have advantageous experience with Mapbox, Carto, AutoCAD, or QGIS, highlighting the capability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Exhibit fluency in spoken and written Ukrainian, with a working knowledge of English or Russian, and a proactive approach to fulfilling technical tasks assigned by superiors.
