Thinking about relocating to Dubai for work? Here’s what you need to know in 2025

14 May 2025

A recent report by The National revealed that Dubai rents have climbed by as much as 22% year-on-year, reflecting surging demand and continued population growth. Dubai’s population reached 3.915 million by the end of 2024 — up from 3.1 million in 2021 — a staggering increase driven largely by young professionals arriving in pursuit of opportunity.

While the emirate still offers real potential — particularly in the technology sector — relocating to Dubai in 2025 requires both optimism with a good dose of realism.

“Roughly 1000 people are arriving in Dubai each week, all with visas in hand, which means they already have a job, a sponsor, or family or company ties in place. Dubai attracts a wide mix of young professionals, couples where one partner is job hunting, and families looking to build a future here.

Alongside them, many others are arriving on tourist visas, taking a leap of faith and hoping to find employment once they’re here.

As the population grows, so does the complexity of the economy. The UAE and wider GCC region are evolving into global tech hubs, offering far more diverse employment opportunities than 15–20 years ago.

That growth is exciting. But it naturally raises questions. With such a large influx of people, especially at junior and mid-levels, how will this affect the availability of jobs and salary levels? That’s something both job seekers and employers need to consider carefully.”

In this article, we get Aspire Technology Director and long-time Dubai resident Nick Drzymalski, shares his thoughts.

With that in mind, here’s a comprehensive guide for what to consider if you’re planning to move to Dubai for work this year.

Dubai’s tech job market: Strong, but competitive

Nick says, “Dubai continues to invest heavily in digital infrastructure, attracting major players in fintech, AI, cloud services, and cybersecurity. There’s no shortage of opportunity — but there is a sharp rise in application volumes.”

Consider this:

  • A Project Manager job in Dubai may attract over 2,200 applicants. The same role in London? Around 55.
  • A Software Developer role in Dubai? Nearly 2,000 applications, compared to under 500 in the UK.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean there is exponentially more people more suited than you, for the job, there’s simply more competition.

“Hiring here isn’t about chasing cheap labour, it’s about finding the right mix of skills, behaviours, and cultural fit. If you’re experienced, with the right mindset, Dubai can offer faster career growth than more mature markets.”

Tip: Hiring managers are open to both junior talent with potential and senior professionals who can hit the ground running. Permanent, contract, and offshore roles are all in play.

Housing: Costs are rising, be strategic

Dubai’s rental market is heating up – rapidly. While high-end areas like Downtown and Dubai Marina command premium prices, there are still value pockets if you know where to look (e.g. JVC, Al Barsha, Dubai South).

Questions to ask:

  • Does your offer include a housing allowance?
  • Are you renting short-term or committing long-term?
  • Will your location mean long commutes in growing traffic?

“Rents in Dubai are like any major city — high and rising,” Nick says. “The difference is that many newcomers don’t factor this in when relocating without a job. That’s a risk.”

Healthcare: Great quality, but not always fully covered

Dubai has excellent private healthcare, but coverage varies by employer. Most companies provide insurance for the employee, but not always for dependents.

Before moving, clarify:

  • Who is covered under your policy?
  • Are dental, optical, and maternity services included?
  • Can you upgrade your plan if relocating with a family?

Education and schooling: Major cost for families

International schools are excellent but expensive. Expect:

  • Curricula ranging from British and IB to American systems
  • Annual fees from AED 30,000–100,000+
  • Waitlists for popular schools

Tip: If you’re moving with children, secure school spots early and check if your employer offers an education allowance.

Lifestyle: Ambitious, rewarding, and demanding

Dubai offers a tax-free income, luxury lifestyle, and global exposure, but don’t expect a dramatic cost-of-living advantage.

“You’re not going to double your salary,” Nick says. “But you can build a life, develop faster in your career, and save — if you plan wisely.”

Tip: Factor in commuting, school fees, insurance, and the true cost of living.

The realities of job searching in Dubai

While Dubai is full of opportunity, finding the right job can take time, particularly if you arrive without one. Hiring cycles can be slow, and competition is fierce.

“Come with your eyes open,” Nick advises. “Have the funds to support yourself through the recruitment process. It’s not always instant, and the risk is that people end up in roles well below their experience just to survive.”

Key advice:

  • Work with specialist recruiters who know the tech market
  • Build your network locally and online
  • Apply, but also follow up. Personal connections matter
  • Be honest with yourself: is the role right for your skills and qualifications? Only apply if it is a good match.

Final thoughts: Look before you leap, but leap

Dubai is still riding a wave of economic momentum, particularly in technology, construction, and innovation. If you’re strategic, informed, and patient, it can be a powerful place to grow your career.

“If you’re experienced, adaptable, and ready to deliver  – Dubai can offer opportunities you won’t find elsewhere,” says Nick. “But don’t come blind. Come prepared.”
