We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing R&D function focused on developing advanced engineered products and systems. This is a hands-on role working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to production, within a fast-paced and collaborative engineering environment.

You’ll play a key role in delivering robust, high-performance designs, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to bring complex products to life.

The Role

You will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical solutions for complex electronic and electromechanical systems. This includes ownership of design activities from early concept through to validation, production, and ongoing product support.

You’ll be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, contribute to multiple projects simultaneously, and ensure designs meet performance, cost, and delivery objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities across the full product lifecycle
• Develop concepts, detailed designs, and engineering drawings for complex systems
• Design enclosures, structures, and assemblies for electronic systems, including thermal and environmental considerations
• Support product development from prototyping through to production release
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electronics, systems, and manufacturing
• Contribute to design reviews and ensure compliance with technical and quality standards
• Support existing products, resolving technical issues and driving improvements
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building engineering capability within the team
• Identify opportunities to improve design processes, tools, and materials

What we’re looking for

• Strong grounding in mechanical engineering fundamentals and first-principles design
• Proven experience designing mechanical systems for electronic or electromechanical products
• Ability to take ownership of designs from concept through to production
• Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks or similar) and PDM systems
• Understanding of thermal management, materials selection, and environmental considerations
• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, delivery-focused mindset
• Confident communicator, able to work effectively across engineering and non-engineering teams

Desirable experience

• Exposure to FEA and an understanding of its practical application and limitations
• Experience with cable and harness design or integration
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and translate into mechanical layouts
• Familiarity with system engineering lifecycles (e.g. V-model)
• Experience with CAD/CAM tools and manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of additive manufacturing, composites, or advanced materials

Background

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Experience within aerospace, advanced manufacturing, automotive, or similar high-performance engineering environments
