About the Role

The SME – Military Operations (C4I) bridges the gap between warfighters and engineers. You'll support the development of system architectures and military applications that reflect real operational concepts and the practical needs of commanders and operators across land, sea, and air environments — ensuring what's built actually works the way it's meant to be used.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the definition of Concepts of Operations (CONOPS) within a specific domain (Air Force, Land Force, Navy, Joint Operations Command, etc.)
• Translate tactical doctrine, operational concepts, and warfighter needs into technical specifications for advanced C4I systems
• Convert high-level CONOPS and tactical doctrine into detailed functional and non-functional system requirements for software and hardware engineering teams
• Act as the primary liaison between program managers, engineers, and government stakeholders to clarify mission intent and operational constraints
• Define key performance parameters (KPPs) and system attributes grounded in realistic military scenarios
• Participate in design reviews, assessing the operational viability of proposed C4I architectures
• Support the creation of operational test plans and validation scenarios using digital twins, wargaming simulations, and live-fire exercises
• Evaluate system prototypes against realistic threat environments, feeding back on usability, interoperability, and mission effectiveness
• Provide expert guidance across the breadth of military operations — from logistics and HR to operations, communications, and intelligence
• Track emerging threats and adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to keep systems forward-looking and relevant
• Guide the training of AI/ML models with operationally grounded input
• Develop and deliver training material and sessions for engineering teams
• Partner with UX/UI designers to ensure Human-Machine Teaming interfaces respect cognitive load limits and real-world decision-making cycles

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in a Military or Engineering-related field
• 10+ years of active-duty service, or equivalent experience in a senior military operations role
• Solid understanding of C4I architecture, communications, Tactical Data Links, ISR, and Battle Management Systems
• Knowledge of the military capability lifecycle, operations, and CONOPS development
• Familiarity with Joint Doctrine, Service-specific doctrine, and NATO STANAGs
• Awareness of systems engineering practices within a defence context
