An established, confidential technology business is seeking an Electronic Component Engineer to lead the selection, qualification and lifecycle management of electronic components across advanced product lines. You will work closely with design, procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure components deliver the right balance of performance, cost, quality and long-term supply availability.
What you’ll do
- Maintain and develop the Altium component library, creating accurate schematic symbols and footprints to IPC standards.
- Keep the MRP system (ideally IFS or an equivalent) synchronised with the Altium component database.
- Identify, evaluate and qualify electronic components for new designs using CAD and simulation tools.
- Ensure component selections comply with relevant industry standards, including IPC, JEDEC, RoHS and REACH.
- Monitor component obsolescence risks, recommend suitable alternatives and support lifecycle planning.
- Periodically review and report RoHS and REACH status for legacy designs.
- Maintain component databases and BOM integrity as products move from prototype through to production.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain technical data, samples and reliability documentation.
- Partner with design and procurement teams to align component decisions with programme, cost and availability goals.
- Support failure analysis and root-cause investigations, as well as reliability testing and validation activities.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, datasheets, qualification reports and work procedures.
- Ensure traceability and compliance with both internal and external standards.
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years’ experience in component engineering, electronics design or a closely related role.
- Strong hands-on proficiency with Altium is essential.
- Solid understanding of passive, active and electromechanical components.
- Experience working with component libraries, BOMs, MRP/ERP systems and supplier documentation.
- Good knowledge of compliance and environmental standards, including RoHS and REACH.
- Strong analytical, documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
Desirable experience
- Exposure to high-reliability sectors such as aerospace, medical devices or automotive.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and green compliance requirements.
- IPC CID certification or equivalent.
